I’m Corey Thompson. In spring 2015, I got laid off from my drilling consultant job after OPEC refused to cut production on Thanksgiving 2014. Oil prices crashed, the rig count plummeted, and the shale boom hit a wall.
I thought I’d done everything “right.” My toys were paid off, my house was under-leveraged, I’d saved money. By my math, I could coast for years. But reality hit hard: no job, no income stream, and the financial security I’d built felt paper-thin.
Around that time, my childhood friend wanted to move his mom’s life insurance payout and inherited 401(k) out of stocks and into real estate for cash flow. We attended a local networking event to see if we could pull it off.
The next week, we bought our first three houses.
From there, we built a real business in the trenches—flipping, wholesaling, owner financing, and scaling to around 300 rental properties: apartments, mobile home parks, single-family homes, and commercial properties. All focused on cash flow and building real wealth.
